Steven Torres was born on Sept. 18, 1985. His mother, Margaret Ann Torres, a single parent raised him and his sister Valerie  on the Southside of San Antonio with the help of his grandparents Catherine M. Gamez and Pete G. Gamez.  Steven credits his mother and grandfather for the person he is today.  At a young age Steven, Valerie and Margaret would volunteer at many events to give back to the community such as the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, H-E-B Christmas Dinner, and Toys for Tots.  He learned that life has its ups and downs and nothing is given to an individual.  Steven as young kid wanted to be many things fireman, own a club, sports agent, and coach. He really couldn’t focus on one career path like a typical kid. He attended Collier Elementary and Leal Middle School in the Harlandale ISD. Steven left the district when he applied to Business Careers High School on the campus of Holmes High School in 2000.

During his high school career he was a part of many organizations such as the mentorship program, Fellow Christian Athletes, Baseball team, and the Football team. Steven graduated from Business Careers in 2004. After graduating high school Steven faced a decision work full time, go to school, or join military. Steven didn’t take his ACT or SATs in high school. Facing an uphill obstacle Steven attended the Alamo Community College District and was cross enrolled at San Antonio College & Northwest Vista. He took the accuplacer test. His scores were not up to standards. He started his college career in course 0300 in reading, math, and English.  At one point Steven thought college wasn’t for him contemplating quitting. While at San Antonio College he worked at a local hotel called “Watermark” - Pesca on the River walk as a server assistant, food runner, and server.   The people he meet whether serving or working with emphasized education is important and that it opens doors for people.  Steven obtained his Associates in Applied Liberal Arts 2008 while in enrolled at San Antonio College and Northwest Vista he received President Honors 3 years in a row.

In 2008, Steven left the restaurant and applied in Northside ISD where he started working as an Instructional Assistant at Thomas L. Hatchett Elementary where he assisted in TLC (Teaching Learning Center) and ALE (Applied Learning Environment). Steven would later become BMC (Behavior Mastery Center) Teacher at Hatchett.
